Who Are We?

We are a small group of dedicated amateur astronomers. Our current membership includes all generations, people with a variety of experience and formal education. The one thing we all have in common is a love of exploring the night sky and sharing it with the public. Our primary mission is sharing our knowledge doing public outreach. We support Oliver Lee State Park’s Night Sky Program by hosting monthly star parties.

We have also supported the New Mexico Space Museum for many years.

We assisted with the White Sands Star Party as well as several Solar Eclipse events over the past few years.

We have provided support for events with both private and public schools. We provide public outreach events every opportunity we get.

We created this site to not only provide information about our group and our upcoming events but to educate and inform. Review each of our sections, especially our classroom area. We have a tremendous amount of information dealing with all aspects of astronomy.

The Amateur Astronomers Group welcomes new members. The only requirement is a desire to view the night sky and share your experience with the public.

If you do not have a telescope and are thinking of getting into the hobby, you can talk to one of our astronomers and they can provide valuable information on what type of equipment to purchase.

Maybe you already have a telescope and are unsure of how to use it or unfamiliar with the objects in our sky. You are welcome to bring your telescope out to our events and we will gladly offer assistance in setting up and using your scope.

We welcome all to our events. Please take a good look at our schedule and spend a night out at Oliver Lee State Park and enjoy the beautiful clear, dark New Mexico night skies with us.
