Crater Copernicus1096 viewsCopernicus is a 93 km (57.7 miles) wide crater located in eastern Oceanus Procellarum. It is estimated to be about 800 million years old and is nearly 3.8 km (2.35 miles) deep (over twice as deep as the Grand Canyon!). Image taken using a 6" SCT at f20 using an Imaging Source DMK41AU02 camera.

Jan 2019 lunar eclipse634 viewsJanuary 20, 2019 lunar eclipse taken with Borg 71FL refractor and Canon 1000D DSLR on a Vixen alt-az mount. Single exposure 0.8 sec, ISO 400
Moon_9Sep16.jpg
First Quarter Moon946 viewsThe moon on September 9, 2016. During this phase 50% of the moon disc is illuminated. Taken with ES 127mm, Canon 60Da, Celestron CGE Pro. Processed with RegiStax 6 and Photoshop CS 6.
M8_and_M20.jpg
Lagoon Nebula (M8) and Trifid Nebula (M20)925 viewsThe Lagoon Nebula (M8) on the left and Trifid Nebula (M20) on the bottom right are located in the constellation of Sagittarius. M8 is an emission nebula about three times the size of the full moon. The nebula’s brightest region is illuminated by two supper giant stars while the rest of the nebula is illuminated by the open star cluster NGC 6530. M8’s smaller neighbor, M20, is a combination of emission nebula (red) and reflection nebula (blue). The image consist of 4 hours of exposure taken with a Canon 60Da camera and Orion ED80T telescope mounted on a Celestron CGEM mount. Exposures were stacked with Nebulosity 4, processed with PixInsight 1.8, and minor cosmetic touches with Photoshop CS6.

White Light Sun842 viewsSunspot AR2403 is almost 200,000 km long and is easily visible in this image taken from Maryland on 8/25/2015 using an Orion ED80T Triplet refractor and a color Atik 414ex camera. The telescope was equipped with a white light filter and the exposure was set to 0.001 sec. Light was further reduced by using a Moon filter in fromt of the camera. Great shot Chuck!
NGC_6992_and_NGC_6995.jpg
NGC 6995 and NGC 6992 (The Eastern Veil Nebula)914 viewsNGC 6995 / NGC 6992 (Eastern Veil Nebula) form part of the Cygnus loop a supernova remnant in the constellation of Cygnus. Other objects that form part of the Cygnus loop, not visible in this image, are NGC 6960 and NGC 6979. The cloud of ionized gas and dust covers an area of 3 degrees (around 6 times the size of the full moon) and continues to expand. The image consist of 44 x 300sec exposures taken with a QHY10 CCD camera and Orion 80mm refractor mounted on a Celestron CGEM mount.
Jupiter_2015_02_07_6SCT_f25_21AU618.jpg
Jupiter with Io and Europa1141 viewsJupiter was at opposition on Feb 6, 2015. In this image Jupiter is framed by its moon Io (L) and Europa (R). Image taken with a Celestron 6"SCT at f25 using an Imaging Source 21AU618 color camera. Stack of approx 2700 images using Registax 5.1, Lucy Richardson deconvolution, and Photoshop 7.0.1.
Jupiter_and_Moons_LinearFit_From_Steve.jpg
Jupiter975 viewsOn 1/23/2015 the shadows of Io, Callisto, and Europa were visible from Earth as they transit across Jupiter. This photo shows Io's shadow (someone correct me if I am wrong) as it transited across the gas giant. The image consist of 2,000 video frames taken with an Imaging Source camera and a Meade 8" SCT mounted on a Celestron CGEM mount. Frames were stacked with Registax6 and processed with PhotoShop CS6 and Steve's touch.

A Galactic Rose1199 viewsThe Rosette nebula (Sh2-275) is a large molecular cloud in the constellation Monoceros. The nebula is about 4-6 times the size of the full moon in our night sky. The cloud is mostly comprised of hydrogen gas and is illuminated from the group of hot, young stars near its center. The nebula lies some 5200 light years from the Earth. This image was taken from Alamogordo NM using a 100mm f7.2 refractor and a modified Canon 1000D (XS) DSLR.
Heart_Nebula_(IC1805).jpg
Heart Nebula (IC 1805)1080 viewsThe Heart nebula (IC1805), an emission nebula is located in the Perseus arm of our galaxy. The nebula spans around 4 times the diameter of the full moon. It is estimated to be 7,500 light-years away from our planet. This photo consist of 3 hours of exposure (3 and 5 min exposures) taken with a Canon 60Da thru an Orion 80mm telescope on a Celestron CG-5. Images were stacked with Nebulosity and processed with PhotoShop CS6.
The_Moon_In_Color.jpg
The Moon in color1067 viewsGot up early Sunday morning and decided to take shots of the moon as it peaked between the clouds. I stacked the best 15 shots then tried to get color out of the moon with Photoshop CS 6. It doesn't look that good, but it is OK for the fist attempt. Canon EOS 60Da with a 500mm lens.
