NGC 891 in Andromeda1108 viewsNGC 891 is an edge-on spiral galaxy found in the constellation Andromeda. Current estimates put NGC 891 30 to 31 million light-years away from us. A prominent dust lane can be easily seen in the galaxy. Numerous other small galaxies can be seen in the background including a faint galaxy to the right of the central bulge. Image was a total of 8 hrs of combined exposure taken over 6 nights (32 x 15 min lights @ -20 degrees C, dithered; 32 darks; 128 bias; 128 flats) taken with a TeleVue 140 f/5 refractor and SBIG ST2000xcm camera on an Astro-Physics 1200 mount. Image acquisition and guiding with MaxIm DL 6.07 and image calibration, registration, integration, and processing with PixInsight 1.8.3.1123 Ripley (x64).

NGC891789 viewsNGC891 is an unbarred spiral galaxy in the constellation of Andromeda. It is located 30 million light-years from earth and it measures 100 light years across. Astronomers believe NGC891 looks similar to the Milky Way if viewed edge-on. This image consist of 5 hours of exposure with a Canon 60Da camera, 8” TPO RC telescope, and Celestron CGE Pro mount. Processed in PixInsight 1.8.

The edge-on galaxy NGC 891 in Andromeda 794 viewsThe edge-on galaxy NGC 891 is found in the constellation Andromeda. NGC 891 is approximately 30 million light-years away and is similar in size to our own Milky Way galaxy. A prominent dust lane is seen in the plane of the galaxy with tendrils of dust seen above and below that plain. These dust tendrils may be due in part to supernova explosions. The image is a total of 11 hours of exposure through a 12.5 inch f/9 RCOS astrograph with a SBIG STF8300c CCD camera on a Paramount ME taken in Mayhill, NM on the nights of 13, 14 Oct 2016; 16 Nov 2017; 13, 15 Dec 2017, and 13, 19 Jan 2018 (33 X 1200 sec lights @ -15 degrees C; 18 darks, 128 bias; 128 flats). Processed in PixInsight 1.8.5.1353 Ripley (X64).
