This image consist of 80 x 5min exposures taken with a Canon 60Da camera, Orion ED80T refractor, and a Celestron CGEM mount.

Messier 82826 viewsThis combined Ha and Luminance image shows the starburst galaxy Messier 82 in Ursa Major with its filamentary outflows of ionized hydrogen. This emission is suggested to be due to stellar winds caused by massive energetic young stars (as well as supernova resulting from their death) being born at a high rate within the galaxy. Total of 9 hr 20 min exposure with a Takahashi CCA-250 f/5 astrograph; Nights of 15, 28 March 2015, 12, 13 Jan 2016, 8, 9 Feb 2016; 2015 Paramount ME, QSI 683wsg, 5 nm Astrodon Ha filter (Lum 11 x 20 min @ - 20 degrees C; Ha 17 x 20 min @ - 20 degrees C), calibrated, registered, integrated, and processed in PixInsight 1.8.4.1195.

Jupiter974 viewsOn 1/23/2015 the shadows of Io, Callisto, and Europa were visible from Earth as they transit across Jupiter. This photo shows Io's shadow (someone correct me if I am wrong) as it transited across the gas giant. The image consist of 2,000 video frames taken with an Imaging Source camera and a Meade 8" SCT mounted on a Celestron CGEM mount. Frames were stacked with Registax6 and processed with PhotoShop CS6 and Steve's touch.

The California Nebula930 viewsNGC 1499, aka the California Nebula, is a large emission nebula in Perseus. It is about 2.5 degrees in length and has a very low surface brightness, which makes it somewhat of a challenge to observe visually. The image was taken with a Canon 60Da DSLR and a Takahashi FSQ106ED telescope with focal reducer (f/3.6 FL = 385 mm) on an Astro-Physics 1200 mount. Total combined exposure was 5 hrs (20 x 15 min guided and dithered lights; 12 darks; 128 bias; 64 flats) taken over three nights (Oct 23rd , 27th , 28th 2014). Image acquisition with MaxIm DL6.07 and calibration, registration, and integration with PixInsight; processing with PixInsight 1.8.3.1123 Ripley (x64) and Adobe Photoshop CC.

NGC 891 in Andromeda1108 viewsNGC 891 is an edge-on spiral galaxy found in the constellation Andromeda. Current estimates put NGC 891 30 to 31 million light-years away from us. A prominent dust lane can be easily seen in the galaxy. Numerous other small galaxies can be seen in the background including a faint galaxy to the right of the central bulge. Image was a total of 8 hrs of combined exposure taken over 6 nights (32 x 15 min lights @ -20 degrees C, dithered; 32 darks; 128 bias; 128 flats) taken with a TeleVue 140 f/5 refractor and SBIG ST2000xcm camera on an Astro-Physics 1200 mount. Image acquisition and guiding with MaxIm DL 6.07 and image calibration, registration, integration, and processing with PixInsight 1.8.3.1123 Ripley (x64).

The IC 1805 region1061 views IC 1805 is a bright heart-shaped emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. The open cluster in the center of IC 1805 is Melotte 15 that contains several extremely large stars whose intense radiation ionizes the hydrogen gas in the region. To the lower left of IC 1805 is the bright nebula NGC 896. To the mid-right of IC 1805 is the open cluster NGC 1027. The image encompasses a vast region with the image scale being approximately 3.1 x 2 degrees.
The image was taken with a Canon 60Da DSLR (ISO 800) and a Takahashi FSQ 106ED with focal reducer (f/3.6; focal length = 385 mm) on an Astro-Physics 1200 mount. Image was a total of 6 hours 15 minutes exposure [75 x 300 sec lights (guided with a Takahashi Mewlon 300/SBIG ST-i); 12 darks; 128 bias; 64 flats]. Images selected (SubframeSelector), calibrated (using a “superbias” master), registered, integrated, and processed in PixInsight 1.8.3.1115.
