AN OPEN CLUSTER IN THE DUST CLOUDS OF PERSEUS
The open cluster NGC 1342 is found in the constellation Perseus. The cluster is estimated to be 400 million years old and about 1,700 light years away. As seen in the image, dust clouds are prevalent in the area. To the upper left in the image is the blue reflection nebula VdB 18. The image is a total of 1 hour 45 min exposure taken with a Takahashi FSQ 106ED with focal reducer f/3.6 and a Canon 60Da (ISO 800) on an Astro-Physics 1200 Mount taken on 5 Dec 2016 in Mayhill, NM (7 x 900 sec lights, 18 darks, 128 bias, 128 flats). Process with PixInsight 1.8.5.
