Total of 30 two-minute exposures aligned, collimated, and combined in Images Plus and processed in Adobe PhotoShop CS2. Exposures were keep short to preserve detail near the bright core of the nebula.

Fourteen 120-second exposures aligned, calibrated, and combined in Images Plus; processed with Adobe Photoshop CS2; taken with a 178mm f/9 Astro-Physics refractor and a Canon 20Da DSLR camera (ISO 800).

Eclipse of the Moon1526 viewsA series of photos of the lunar eclipse of Dec 21th showing the shadow of the earth traveling across the Moon's surface. Images taken with a 130 mm f/8 Astro-Physics refractor and a modified Canon 40D DSLR at ISO 200. Exposures varied from 1/2000 th of a second at the begining of the eclipse to 6 seconds at totality.

M20 is a combination emission nebula (pink), reflection nebula (blue) and dark nebula (the spider legs in the pink). Towards the center is Messier 8, or the Lagoon Nebula. M8 is an emission nebula and active star forming region. A star cluster is superimposed on it. The lower right has the star cluster NGC 6544. Image was taken using an 80mm Onyx refractor and a modified Canon XS DSLR. Too bad it was only 12 min - I ran out of night,

The Great Nebula in Orion1713 viewsMessier 42 in the constellation Orion is a star forming region in our galaxy, the Milky Way. It is a difficult object to photograph because of it's large variation in brightness. The attached is an image of M42 that is a combination of multiple stacked 10 second, 30 second, 60 second, 150 second, and 300 second exposures using Photoshop's High Dynamic Range tool ( Canon 20Da DSLR and an Astro-Physics 130mm f/8 refractor).

Hydrogen alpha image of Messier 81371 viewsM8, an emission nebula, is found in the constellation Sagittarius. A significant portion of it's composition is hydrogen, which emitts light due to the excitation of the hydrogen atoms from radiation coming from the embedded stars in the nebula. A particular wavelenght of this emission, Ha, was imaged using a narrowband filter and assigned a red color (TeleVue 85 refractor; 0.8 reducer/fattener; SBIG ST-2000 CCD; 25 x 5 min lights; 30 darks; 41 flats).

NGC 14991060 viewsNGC 1499, aka the California Nebula, is a diffuse nebula found in the constellation Perseus. The nebula, which is composed primarily of hydrogen gas, was discovered by E. E. Barnard in 1884 using a 6-inch refractor. The image is a total exposure of 3 hours 5 min (37 x 300 sec lights) using a Takahashi E-180 astrograph and a Canon 20Da DSLR at ISO 800 (30 darks, 67 flats). Image processed using Images Plus 3.82b and Adobe Photoshop CS5.

Although the Moon is in the Earth's full shadow, or umbra, the moon appears to be have a copper-colored glow. This coloration is due to light bent (refraction) or scattered by the Earth's atmosphere onto the Moon. Image is a 6-second exposure with a Canon 40D at ISO 200 through a 130 mm f/9 Astro-Physics refractor on a Paramount.

M27 is a large cloud of expanding gas, which is the remains of a star that expelled its outer atmosphere near the end of its lifetime.
