NGC 1499 California Nebula1116 viewsThe California Nebula (NGC 1499) is an emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus. It is so named because it appears to resemble the outline of the state of California on long exposure photographs. It is almost 2.5° long on the sky and, because of its very low surface brightness, it is extremely difficult to observe visually. It lies at a distance of about 1,000 light years from Earth. This is a Ha, G, B exposure.
NGC_2175_Monkey_Head_Nebula.jpg
The Monkey Head Nebula847 viewsNGC 2175, aka the Monkey Head Nebula, is found in the constellation Orion. NGC 2175 is part of Sharpless 2-252, which is an extended H-II region that is approximately 7200 light years away. Please note that there is some discrepancy in the literature as to the designation as NGC 2175 or NGC 2174...for a discussion see S. J. O'Meara in Deep-Sky Companions: Hidden Treasures: Cambridge 2007. Image was taken with a Takahashi Epsilon 180 f/2.8 astrograph and a SBIG STF8300c camera on a Paramount. The exposure was a total of 14 hours 30 min exposure taken on 12/26, 12/27, 12/30 2012 and 1/1, 1/2 2013 (87 x 10 min lights, guided; 20 darks; 64 bias; 61 flats; all at -20 degress C). Images were graded in Images Plus 5.0 and calibrated, registered, integrated, and processed in PixInsight 1.8.1 Ripley.
Sh2-206_Supernova_Remnant_in_the_Constellation_Taurus.jpg
Sh2-240 Supernova Remnant in Taurus530 viewsImaged is the large supernova remnant Sharpless 2-240 in the constellation Taurus. The complex filamentary structure leads to it's common name, the Spaghetti Nebula. Field of view of the image is 2.12 x 3.21 degrees that captures only part of the nebula, which is approximately 3 degrees. Emission of the nebula is believed to be due to the shock wave of the expanding gas. Image was captured through a Takahashi FSQ 106ED with focal reducer (f/3.6 fl =385mm) and a Canon 60Da DSLR on an Astro-Physics 1200 mount; 23rd and 27th Oct 2014 (20 x 900 sec lights @-20 degrees, dithered; 35 darks; 126 flats; 128 bias; Software: SkyX, MaxIm DL 6, processed in PixInsight 1.8.3.1123).
IC1848_Soul_Nebula_sRGB.jpg
The Soul Nebula 553 viewsThe emission nebula Sharpless 2-199 and the open cluster IC 1848 in the constellation Cassiopeia are commonly referred to as the soul nebula. The emission nebula is a massive star-forming region. The image was a total combined exposure of 8 hr 45 min taken over 6 nights (Aug and Oct 2014) in Mayhill, NM (35 x 900 sec lights at -20 degrees, dithered; 35 darks, 128 bias, 128 flats); Takahashi Epsilon 180 f/2.8 astrograph; Paramount ME; SBIG STF 8300c; guided with a ST-i camera and an Astro-Physics/Baader guider system; acquisition with MaxIm DL 6; Images calibrated, aligned, integrated, and processed in PixInsight 1.8.4 using a Synthetic Luminance and Multiscale Processing.
NGC1491.jpg
NGC 1491618 viewsNGC 1491 is an emission nebula found in the constellation of Perseus. It is located over 10,000 light-years from Earth and it forms part of the larger Sharpless 206 nebula. This image consists of over 5 hours of imaging with a Canon 60Da camera, 8” TPO telescope on a Celestron CGE Pro mount. Calibrated, stacked, and processed with PixInsight 1.8
RGB_Lum_NonLinearCombination_final_Large.jpg
An Open Cluster and Nebula in the constellation Auriga674 viewsNGC 1931 is a relatively young open cluster surrounded by emission and reflection nebulosity (Sharpless 2-237) in the constellation Auriga. Faint red hydrogen emission can be see in the region surrounding the compact cluster/nebulosity. Sharpless 2-237 shows both red hydrogen emission and blue reflection nebulosity. Image was a total of 15 hours of exposure through a Takahashi CCA250 f/5 astrograph with a QSI683wsg camera @ -20 degrees C. (Astrodon Gen 2 filters) on a Paramount ME on the nights of 23, 30 Nov and 5 Dec 2016 and 13, 18, 19 Jan 2018 in Mayhill, NM (Lum 30 x 1200 sec; Red 5 x 1200 sec; Green 5 x 1200 sec; Blue 5 x 1200 sec; with corresponding Flats, Darks, and Bias). Processed in PixInsight 1.8.5.1353 Ripley (x64). Color calibration and RGB image stretch with PixInsight's Photometric Color Calibration and Arcsinh Stretch, respectively.
