Polaris Star Trails1098 viewsMy first attempt at this. I will upload a new one later. This is a 10min shot.
M11327 viewsFirst light Shot from me ST-6 and new Mount. This is a single 4 minute shot at prime focus through my C8. Needs more time and better seeing.
Orion nebula complex1251 viewsNot the greatest picture - but a test of the new Borg 71FL astrograph with the modded Canon XS DSLR. This is a 25 minute exposure at ISO 1600. Come out this winter to see the Orion nebula for yourself at Oliver Lee State Park.
Heart Nebula1341 viewsThe Heart Nebula, IC 1805, Sh2-190, lies some 7500 light years away from Earth and is located in the Perseus arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia. This is an emission nebula showing glowing gas and darker dust lanes. The open cluster of stars near the center known as Melotte 15 illuminates the nebula. This is a single 7min exposure thru an FSQ106/Ha filter from Tzec Maun Observatory in Mayhill NM.
The Cat's Paw Newbula1560 viewsNGC 6334, AKA the Cat's Paw Nebula, is found in the constellation Scorpius. NGC 6334 is a complex emission nebula along with dark dust lanes. Image is a total of 3 hours 25 minutes exposure (41 x 5 min) taken with a modified Canon 40D and a Takahashi Epsilon 180 f/2.8 astrograph. Image was processed using Images Plus 3.82B and Adobe Photoshop CS5 software.

Majestic Saturn1262 viewsInstalled new Vista drivers for the NexImage, needed to make sure it worked! Saturn 3/1/08, 9:25 PM MT, Celestron 6" SCT, 2.5x Powermate, 1069 stacked images. 20 arc sec dia, 100% illuminated.
Friday Night at the Orion1281 viewsHere's another shot of the Orion nebula using the 6" SCT at f6.3 with an unmodded Canon Rebel XSi (15min total) done on 3/5/10. The nebula is seen as the middle "star" in the sword of Orion. The Orion Nebula is one of the most scrutinized and photographed objects in the night sky, and is among the most intensely studied celestial features. It is located at a distance of 1,344 ± 20 light years. This is an example of a stellar nursery where over 700 new stars are being formed. Cool stuff!
Messier 13-Globular Cluster in Hercules1171 viewsWe were showing a number of globular clusters at our star party events at Oliver Lee State Park. Here is an image of M (Messier) 13 taken with the 6" SCT and a Canon Rebel XSi (15 min). (retouched after I got a new monitor)
NGC 1499 California Nebula1210 viewsThe California Nebula (NGC 1499) is an emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus. It is so named because it appears to resemble the outline of the state of California on long exposure photographs. It is almost 2.5° long on the sky and, because of its very low surface brightness, it is extremely difficult to observe visually. It lies at a distance of about 1,000 light years from Earth. This is a Ha, G, B exposure.
Moon: Tyco/Clavius crater region1399 viewsAn image of the Tyco/Clavius region taken from Alamogordo. Tyco (53 miles in diameter, near center of image) is a relatively young crater based on samples from Apollo 17. Clavius (140 miles in diameter, lower center) is a much older crater with several smaller craters inside of it. Image taken using the C9.25 with a Imaging Source DMK41AU02 camera and Lumicon H-alpha filter. This picture is surprisingly similiar to one in the Sep/Oct 2011 SkyNews (p.36).
