The Flaming Star Nebula1409 viewsThe Flaming Star Nebula, IC 405, is located in the Constellation Auriga. The nebula is illuminated by the variable star AE Aurigae that is slowly passing thru the nebula but in fact did not condense from the surrounding nebula. The image acquired with a Canon 20Da DSLR (ISO 800) and a Takahashi E 180 astrograph. Total exposure time of 2.5 hrs (30 X 300 seconds lights calibrated, aligned, stacked, and stretched (DDP) in Images Plus 3.80 and further processed in Adobe Photoshop CS4).

The Flaming Star Nebula1030 viewsThe Flaming Star Nebula, designated IC 405 or Caldwell 31, is found in the constellation Auriga. IC 405 is both an emission and reflection nebula and is associated with the star AE Aurigae. The image was captured using a Takahashi E-130D f/3.3 astrograph and a SBIG STF-8300c CCD camera on a Paramount. Total integration time was 6 hrs 50 min (41 x 10 min lights at -20 degrees C; 20 darks; 64 lights; 64 bias). Images were graded in Images Plus 5.0; subs were calibrated, registered, integrated, and processed in PixInsight 1.8 Ripley, with final adjustments in Adobe Photoshop CC.

IC 405 is both an emission and reflection nebula that is associated with the star AE Aurigae. The image was taken using a Takahashi Epsilon 130D f/3.3 Astrograph and a SBIG STF8300c CCD camera (Paramount ME) on the nights of Nov 6th, 8th, 9th, 2013 in Mayhill, NM. Total integration time was 5 hrs 40 min (34 x 10 min lights at -20 degrees C; 20 darks; 64 lights; 64 bias). Sub-frames were calibrated, registered, integrated, and processed in PixInsight 1.8.4.1170 Ripley (x64).
