The Lagoon Nebula1150 viewsThe Lagoon Nebula (cMessier 8 or M8, and as NGC 6523) is a giant interstellar cloud in the constellation Sagittarius. The Lagoon Nebula is estimated to be between 4,000-6,000 light years from the Earth. The nebula contains a number of Bok globules (dark, collapsing clouds of proto-stellar material). Imaged using a 100mm F7.2 refractor (112 min) and Hap Griffin modified Canon 1000D DSLR (ISO 800).
Rosette Nebula878 viewsThe Rosette nebula is large nebula that resembles a a flower. The open cluster in its center, NGC 2244, consist of stars that formed from the nebula's material. The photo consist of 8 X 3 minutes photos and 5 X 5 minutes photos utilizing a Canon 60Da on and Orion 80mm refractor. Images were stacked in Nebulosity with levels and curves adjusted with Photoshop CS6.
California Nebula1002 viewsThe California Nebula is an emission nebula which resembles the state of California. It is located in the constellation of Perseus. The photo consist of 12 5minutes photos utilizing a Canon 60Da on an Orion 80mm refractor. Images were stacked in Nebulosity with levels and curves adjusted with Photoshop CS6.
Crescent Nebula1055 viewsThe Crescent Nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation of Cygnus. It is also know as NGC 6888. The photo consist of 30 x 3 minute photos utilizing a Canon 60Da on a Celestron 8" Newtonian taken on 27 and 31 Oct. Images were stacked in Nebulosity with levels and curves adjusted with Photoshop CS6.
Trumpler 37 and IC 13961112 viewsThe bright open cluster Trumpler 37, which is approximately 90' in diameter, is surrounded by the even larger emission nebula IC 1396 (170' x 140'). Both are found in the constellation Cepheus. The bright-rimmed globule extending downward towards the center of the image is often called the Elephant's Trunk Nebula. The image is a total integrated exposure time of 4 hrs 40 min with a modified Canon 40D and a Takahashi Epsilon E-180 f/2.8 astrograph on a Paramount; 28 x 10 min lights; 12 darks; 65 flats; 64 bias; Images graded in Images Plus 5.0; Calibrated, registared, integrated, and processed in PixInsight 1.8 RC7; Final adjustments in Photoshop CS6/CC.
Heart Nebula (IC 1805)1080 viewsThe Heart nebula (IC1805), an emission nebula is located in the Perseus arm of our galaxy. The nebula spans around 4 times the diameter of the full moon. It is estimated to be 7,500 light-years away from our planet. This photo consist of 3 hours of exposure (3 and 5 min exposures) taken with a Canon 60Da thru an Orion 80mm telescope on a Celestron CG-5. Images were stacked with Nebulosity and processed with PhotoShop CS6.
A Galactic Rose1199 viewsThe Rosette nebula (Sh2-275) is a large molecular cloud in the constellation Monoceros. The nebula is about 4-6 times the size of the full moon in our night sky. The cloud is mostly comprised of hydrogen gas and is illuminated from the group of hot, young stars near its center. The nebula lies some 5200 light years from the Earth. This image was taken from Alamogordo NM using a 100mm f7.2 refractor and a modified Canon 1000D (XS) DSLR.
IC 2118 area1044 viewsImage of part of IC 2118 found in the constellation Eridanus. IC 2118, a reflection nebula, is believed to be illuminated by the giant star Rigel in Orion. For the extent of the nebulous area around IC 2118 see the wide-field photograph by Rogelio Bernal Andreo: http://www.deepskycolors.com/archive/2009/11/16/witch-Head-Nebula-and-Rigel.html Aquisition: modified Canon 40D and Takahashi E180 f/2.8 astrograph mounted on a Paramount. Total of 5 hr 25 min exposure (65 x 300 sec lights @ 33 degrees F; 30 darks; 64 flats). Calibrated, registered, integrated, and processed in PixInsight
The Messier 78 region1067 viewsMessier 78 is a reflection nebula in the constellation Orion. Associated with M 78 are various other reflection nebulae as well as large clouds of dust. The image was taken with a modified Canon 40D and Takahashi E 180 f/2.8 astrograph on a Paramount. Total exposure time was 11 hours 10 min (134 x 5 min lights, 35 darks, 64 flats); Image acquisition with MaxIm DL and calibration, registration, integration, and processing with PixInsight
The Miky Way Galaxy1086 viewsThis shot of the Milky Way was taken from Oliver Lee State Memorial Park on Aug 31, 2014. The glow towards the bottom is the light pollution from El Paso, Tx and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. Taken with a Canon 60D at 18mm f3.5 on a Vixen Polarie star tracker.
NGC 6960 (Witch's Broom)1065 viewsNGC 6960 also known as the Witch’s Broom is the western part of the Veil Nebula a super nova remnant located in the constellation of Cygnus. This image consist of 34 X 300sec exposures with a Canon 60Da connected to an Orion 80mm refractor mounted on a Celestron CG-5. Stacked with Nebulosity 3.0 and processed with PhotoShop CS6
