Leo Triplet with Tidal Trail
Messier 65, Messier 66, and NGC 3628 are commonly known as the Leo Triplet. M 65 is a spiral galaxy whose center is comprised of older yellowish stars (bottom left center of image). M 66 (top center) and NGC 3628 (top right center of image; aka the hamburger galaxy) are suggested to have had a past encounter that resulted in a faint tidal trail seen coming off the top of NGC 3628. The image was captured with a modified Canon 40D (ISO 800) and a Takahashi E180 f/2.8 astrograph on a Paramount. Total exposure time was 8 hours (48 X 10 min guided sub-exposures; 13 darks; 64 flats; 64 flat darks). Calibrated and stacked with Images Plus 5.0; processed with PixInsight 1.8 followed by final Levels and Curves adjustment in Adobe Photoshop CS6.
